A revolution in simplicity for ' green ' heating
Heating installers will all be familiar with storage heaters which have been a mainstay of the UK space heating market for many years. With utility bills rising however, many house-holders are looking for home heating that is ‘green’ and less costly to run.
The new Maxa products are self-contained monobloc heat pumps that can be used as a replacement for storage heaters or other conventional forms of electric heating, using only about a quarter of the energy consumed in providing comfortable, programmable heating with simple installation and servicing all from inside the room.
This product type marks a new stage in ‘green’ heating development making a substantial contribution towards achieving national domestic carbon reduction targets atlow cost and without the disruption of buildings and services or the need for specialist installation skills.
MAXA Il Bello is suitable for both retrofit and new build installations. The wall-mounted air-to-air heat pump transfers heat from the outside air into the room giving simply selected heating, fresh air circulation, cooling or dehumidifying all in one unit.
Because it consumes about 75% less energy to pump heat than storage heaters do in creating heat it is probably the most practical form of ‘green’ space heating available, being simple to install and costing little more than top of the range storage heaters. In addition, its low surface temperature feature makes it safe to use in care homes and nurseries.
PROGRESSIVE DESIGN
The MAXA Il Bello range is the result of progressive Italian design with classic, minimalist styling. It complements modern interior furnishing trends, while the high manufacturing quality and design aesthetics are discreet enough to suit all styles of decor.
As a heat pump, its output varies with the external temperature. For the standard model the output is between 2.6kW and 1.7kW (with external temperatures of 7ºC and 0ºC respectively). Dimensions are 948mm wide, 537mm high and 229mm deep; which is compact enough for most rooms. The air inlet and vent is via ducts on the back of the unit, so mounting on an external wall is required.
The design pays special attention to thermal performance and quiet operation. The extensive use of EPP, an innovative thermoplastic soundproofing and structural material, gives a noise level of 41dBA when the product is operational. EPP is completely recyclable and non toxic.
The casing is of moulded material with softly rounded corners and has a low surface temperature. These features make it ideal for nurseries, care homes and schools.
CONTROL
The unit is operated with a hand-held controller emitting an infra-red signal. It selects the mode of operation, the desired room temperature and the fan speed, as well as its daily programme. A discreet LCD display on the front of the heater shows its response to the controller and the room temperature.
